Covim responds to the pandemic with product, process and service innovation.
A courageous idea
The COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented event. Covim has had the courage not to react in a conservative and defensive way, but to take advantage of this historic moment to invest in product, process and service innovation. The key example of this strategy is a plan for a new storage facility for raw coffee, the crucial raw material for roasters. The study is based on the expansion of capacities and types of raw coffee to offer Covim an opportunity to improve its management of supplies and rationalise production processes.
The new warehouse will provide as much as six weeks of autonomy. The capacity of each cell, exceeding 20 tonnes, will be sufficient to receive green coffee in any shipping format, and this will allow direct transportation of complete containers from the port to the roasting site, without passing through the shipper’s warehouses. Environmental concerns have been an integral part of Covim’s policy for many years now, such as significantly reducing emissions of a number of key air pollutants by optimising shipping. The new warehouse will be equipped with a cleaning and sorting system to handle all types of raw coffee directly, in the best possible way. This important step will make Covim a roasting company at the forefront of the green coffee selection and cleaning process. Direct, complete control over the raw material also represents added value leading to a significant improvement in quality.
